The story behind their invention might surprise you! A fidget spinner is a skill toy. Think along the lines of Yo-Yos , jacks , or kites. These are all toys, yet they require a degree of skill.
Fidget spinners are a fun and easy way to keep yourself busy while working, as well as being a great toy to play with and spin whenever. If you want a custom spinner, or just want to make one from things around your home, you can make one in no time at all! To make a fidget spinner, print out a fidget spinner stencil, cut out the template, and trace around the template onto cardboard or foam with a pencil. Next, use a pair of sharp scissors or a craft knife to cut the fidget spinner base out of the cardboard or foam. Then, pierce a toothpick through the center of the spinner base and wiggle the toothpick around to widen the hole. Finally, cut out 2 small, evenly sized circles, push 1 circle onto each side of the toothpick, and glue them in place.
The toy has become so popular that many of the best-selling toys on Amazon are fidget spinners or their squarish sibling, the fidget cube. Even the New York Times has tried to deconstruct the overnight meteoric rise of a gadget that has been around for years. They are made up of a central bearing that you grip with your index finger and thumb, and a three-pronged rotational blade that spins around it once you give it a flick with your free hand. The highly addictive toy has been lauded as a way for young people to manage anxiety and ADHD although this has been disputed by experts. People have even started doing tricks with them, from balancing them on fingers, toes and noses to stacking them together to create enormous, dazzling spinning towers. Arts and crafts blog, Red Ted Art , has come up with an easy way of making your own fidget spinners with basic materials. For this method, you just need some cardboard, a toothpick, two or three penny coins, a glue stick and PVA glue, some scissors and a pin.
