Celine Dion's original song "Ashes" plays a significant role in Deadpool 2 playing over the James Bond -style opening credits, the track wasn't originally written for the film. While director David Leitch was trying out different songs to set to the opening credits, including plans to feature Skyfall 's Adele to further the James Bond parody, the production team were recommended the Dion track by her record label Columbia Records. Losing everything and, hopefully, something beautiful can come out of it. A music video directed by Leitch and featuring Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Deadpool was released ahead of the film's premiere this past May. Reynolds, who also appears on the film's commentary track with Leitch, felt Dion's inclusion was perfect as the singer, like himself, is Canadian.

Deadpool certainly has more clout in Hollywood than he did a decade ago, but it was an impressive feat even for the Merc with a Mouth, and in a recent interview Ryan Reynolds explained how it happened. While appearing with his castmates and director David Leitch at a recent AOL Build panel, Reynolds said he should get "some sort of award" for getting fellow Canadian Dion to be a part of his movie, then detailed how it all went down. The song came first, then when it was time to choose a singer, Reynolds went for broke. Let's see if we can get her,' " he said. I sent her a long letter describing what Deadpool is and what we're hoping to do, and somehow she got And then we said, 'How about a video? It likely doesn't exist, but footage of Celine Dion reading that letter, learning what Deadpool is perhaps for the first time, would be endlessly compelling.

There are certain things you expect from a superhero movie sequel: explosions, villains, action set pieces. Below, Leitch explains how the music video came together — and how Dion brought everyone on set to tears in a good way! I wanted to create an original thematic song for the film that sort of was an emotional through-line for the characters. So I started to look for material. I was working with John Houlihan, the music supervisor. We were meeting with songwriters, we were hearing riffs and ideas, I was giving them briefings on thematics.

Remember when everyone said that Infinity War was the most ambitious crossover event in history?

Deadpool 2 is an entirely predictable affair that, at minutes, spoils itself. We find the antihero Ryan Reynolds, in a role that fits him as well as the tight red and black suit does on a worldwide tour of sorts. Since his last foray onto the big screen, Deadpool, whose superpowers are regeneration and sarcasm, has become a hitman, and an efficient one at that. Seriously, the body count in this movie must be some sort of record. Though he is not an Avenger, his modus operandi has always been avenging.

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool collaborating with Celine Dion might sound like an idea forged in a fever dream, but hey, here we are. Yes, the Celine Dion will appear on Deadpool 2 's official soundtrack — and better than that, Celine has even written her first English-language track since for the film. Go figure. You can watch the genuinely funny video for Celine's latest original single 'Ashes' below, and like with any Marvel-related content, you'll want to stick around until the very end. The words, "Beat it, Spider-Man! In slightly less surprising news, Deadpool 2 's official soundtrack also features the likes of Skrillex and DJ Shadow.
